JAZZEDGE Environmental Statement
Environmental concerns have been on the rise, including: global warming, green house gases, severe weather, etc. Many studies point the finger at irresponsible corporations. At JAZZEDGE, we are strongly committed to reducing our environmental impact.
JAZZEDGE hopes to become a leader in environmental sustainability as a business. In order to achieve this we will be practicing sustainable development. "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." This quote is from Our Common Future: Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development provided by the United Nations. This quote explains the idea behind sustainable development, anti-mass production. If you over package and over produce you are generating excess waste that will only magnify within your business until you reassess your production. At JAZZEDGE we use minimal packaging with our CDs and DVDs and produce based on immediate demand.
- Run our operations with minimal impact on the environment
- Consider the life-cycle of products produced, including packaging
- Seek to use renewable materials and processes
- Promote environmental responsibility among employees
Thanks to all of you, we have already reduced our carbon footprint. How? By utilizing distance learning through our online memberships. We saved thousands of gallons of gasoline.
Because of You, There's Less CO2
Between 1977 and 2007, vehicle miles traveled in the United States increased by 110% even though the American population only increased by 37%. Online businesses reduce this negative impact on the environment. By providing piano lessons online and through DVDs, we don't have students driving to and from lessons. Also, by working from home, we cut out the common daily commute to and from the office each day. This makes our carbon footprint as small as possible and saves you money on gas.
Each year, we donate money to environmental organizations like CarbonFund.org. They are a charitable, non-profit organization and is the nation's leading provider of carbon offsets and climate solutions. This organization helps individuals, businesses and organizations reduce and offset their climate impact.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Recycling and using recycled materials is important to us.
- We provide students sheet music via download which allows them to print only the pages they need.
- We use electronically submitted materials like lesson orders and shipping records.
- We keep paper records to a minimum.
These steps have eliminated the need to print out all of our receipts, bank statements, letters and notices to students, etc. Our DVD packaging is also very "green." Right now, we ship our DVDs in paper sleeves instead of the bulky non-recyclable plastic cases. We ship using small cardboard envelopes.
We use Energy Star compact florescent lightbulbs throughout our entire office and recording studio. These CFLs use 2/3 less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light. By using these light bulbs, we use 1/4 of the amount of energy we would use if all of our light bulbs were incandescent. If every home replaced 1 incandescent bulb with an Energy Star CFL, in 1 year it would save enough energy to light more then 3 million homes! It would also prevent the release of greenhouse gas emissions equal to that of 80,000 cars.
We also power down all of our un-used equipment at night. This includes our computers, printers, monitors and recording equipment.
Myth: Screen savers significantly reduce energy use by monitors. Fact: They do not. They use just as much energy because the monitor is still turned on.
Setting your monitors to automatically switch to sleep mode or manually turning off your monitor is always the better energy-saving strategy.
Because of your support and our dedication, JAZZEDGE is on the way to protecting and improving the environment for future generations. We encourage each and every one of you to start recycling, saving energy, or even just think about your personal impact on the environment.
